Weekend 31st May / 1 st June
A tough weekend for our seniors with 3 defeats from 4 games!
Firstly a huge well done to everyone that played today – to get 2 teams out on a Sunday is testament to the strides forward we have made a as a club and the commitment. To see so many youngsters playing again was fantastic.
Yesterday was a tough day all round. In the 1st XI we didn’t hit nowhere near the heights we can. It was a disappointing and frustrating day but we know as a group we will bounce back stronger and more together. Winning is fantastic, but sometimes a loss is necessary to create some learning, growth and a general wake up call.
A tough weekend, however, it is about how our unity, togetherness and team spirit shines through which is what our club is all about. TEAM first always.
A week of hard work ahead!

(3rd XI – 17th May)
On the eve of Matchday 3 in the The North Lincs Super League it seems opportune to look back at last Saturdays excellent performance.
I had intended to write this on Wednesday whilst I watched Man Utd v Spurs in the Europa League Final but I fell asleep. The multi millionaires of North London and Salford should have been at the Hyperbowl on Saturday if they needed inspiration from told class performances and a team ethic.
With Ram away at work it was Vice Skip Neil Patrick that captained a blend of youth and experience as they welcomed local rivals Brigg. There were first appearances of the season for Dan Conroy and father and son George and Jon Stanser.
The 3s batted first on yet another dry and sunny day. George and Dan opened with Dan soon into the runs with some confident stroke play. Xander was also in the runs before a couple of wickets saw veteran batters Neil and Jon together at the crease. It was punchy and pacy from Neil with boundary after boundary, whilst Jon was stylist at the other end. The runs mounted and in attendance club statistician, Del Crabb, was soon wondering what records may fall. Neil was first to his century ( the moment captured in all it glory by 3rd team official cameraman Rik Dolly). Not far behind Jon completed his century with an over to spare ( the moment not captured by Rik Dolly due to a technical hitch, although we have a clip of Jon recieving the acclaim of the fans a few balls later as he left the pitch. The pair were superb and Brigg were left contemplating a daunting target at the interval – Sponsored on Saturday by Richard Barwell Ornithology quizzes.
Now every day is a school day but the interval was like a mastermind training session for the gathered spectators. The appearance of an Oystercatcher sparked the Barwell/Dalton ( I joined in as well) bird quiz. Chairman Richard unable to catch out his son in law with some quick fire questions. Rik Dolly successfully answering that Avocets and Oystercatchers are different species, but a Peewit and Lapwing are the one and same. A bonus point achieved for knowing that the avocet is the emblem of the RSPB.
Now if that wasn’t enough, Club Statistician Del shared his secrets for getting photos with celebrities. Now flying to Dubai ( the playground of the rich and famous ) is pretty obvious, bagging Del a photo opportunity with Chris Eubank. But Del let us in on a lesser known celebrity hideout- the recycling bins in Leeds Roundhay Park. Loitering for hours this is where he bagged a selfie with Jason Gillespie!!!!
The final snippet gleaned in the interval was legendary magician Paul Daniels, grandson plays cricket for Haxey!
Back to the cricket.
Whilst it was experience and maturity that dominated the batting, youth came to the fore in the bowling. Max and Lucy opened. Pace from Max and away swing with edges through the slip area from Lucy had Brigg in trouble before they got going. At the end of their spells Max had 3 wickets and Lucy 1. Neil also putting in a claim for catch of rhe season.
However a Brigg fight back briefly ensued. Opener ‘Salad’ was lapping up bowl after bowl and at the other end there was some big hitting. King of Cool Kavi had a couple of near misses before young spinner Xander forced an error and Lucy took the catch. At the other end Ken was dot balling, Sachin bowled well without reward and Brigg were slowing down. Tim behind the stumps was excellent and before long Xander had another 2 wickets. Max back into the attack cleaned up the tail, Ken taking his 2nd catch of the afternoon, and Max ended with a 6 wicket haul to.complete a superb team win.
